Intern Agreement
A casual employment agreement written for an intern, covering hours, pay, confidentiality, intellectual property and what you commit to giving them.
PeopleStack · Hiring
Most founders' first experience of employing someone is an intern, and most of them get the legal part wrong without realising. Work through these three steps and you'll know where you stand, what it costs, and what to actually do with them for twelve weeks.
Version 1.0 · Updated 10 October 2026 · Rates current from 1 July 2026
STEP 01
Work through the questions to check where the arrangement stands. Your answers are not saved or sent anywhere.
Question 1 of 4
A course the person is enrolled in, run by an approved provider: a university, TAFE, registered training organisation or school.
STEP 02
Most founders overestimate this. Change the numbers to match your situation. Figures use the national minimum wage from 1 July 2026, or your own rate if an award applies.
The national minimum wage is $26.44 an hour from 1 July 2026, which is $33.05 for a casual once the 25% loading is added. This is the floor, and it only applies if no modern award covers the work.
Your intern budget
On top of wages and super, budget for workers compensation insurance, which varies by state and industry. Payroll tax only applies once your total wages pass your state's threshold, which most startups with one intern are well under.
STEP 03
Tell us about the internship and we will write a tailored twelve-week plan. Edit it, tick off actions and save it as you go.
Six answers and we will write you a twelve-week plan. You can change anything in it afterwards.

Three statements are required by law depending on how you engage someone. We do not host them, because you have to give the current official version. Our guide explains who gets what and when, and links you straight to the downloads.
