Policy Library
What it does
It's for the founder about to make their first hire, or with a few people on board and nothing written down yet. It builds a working set of policies sized for a small team, in plain English, based on current Australian law - and shaped around who you actually want to be as an employer, not a generic template.
It asks the operational questions first: your headcount, which states your people are in, any remote arrangements, and what's already in place. Then it asks who you want to be as an employer - what you never want the company to feel like, what someone should be able to count on in their first year, a specific value or behaviour you want named, and whether you want handbook tone or your own voice. Before it drafts anything, it gives you feedback on the gaps.
Then it builds all nine: Code of Conduct, Respect & Safety, Work Health and Safety, Leave, Flexible and Remote Work, Grievance, Performance & Conduct, Privacy, and (only if you ask) Acceptable Use, Expenses and Whistleblower policies. For teams under 15 it offers to merge Respect & Safety and Grievance into one. Every pack opens with the point every founder needs to hear: year one isn't a free pass, because general protections and discrimination claims apply from day one, whatever your size.
For Queensland and Victorian teams it adds the extra pieces those states require or are moving toward - a sexual harassment prevention plan, a psychosocial hazard add-on to WHS, and the Victorian flexible-work Bill's current status - each marked "pending, check current status" wherever the law is still moving.
What you'll need
- employer-brand.md if you have one (optional, but it makes a real difference).
- Your headcount, including casuals.
- Which state or states your people are based in.
- Whether anyone works remotely or hybrid.
- Whatever policies you already have, even informally.
- A few honest answers about who you want to be as an employer.
- About 15 minutes for the questions. The drafting is quick after that.
How to install
To use this skill in Claude, go to Customize > Skills and upload the ZIP file. Once it's installed, just describe what you need - 'build my policy library' or 'I need a WHS policy' - and Claude will use it. Check the version date; we update it when the law changes, so grab the latest from the Library.
